About CancunSkye Software

CancunSkye Software was started as a challenging hobby & pasttime for me, along with a few select friends and family members. The goal is simple: learn something new while creating unique, innovative and fun games for the iOS systems.

Why "CancunSkye"? - The name is a combination of a favorite vacation spot and the name of a family member. We first started using the name for our first PS3 RockBand band. (We even reached the top 1000 at one point on the RockBand 2 leaderboard!)

I started out entering the software industry professionally in the early 1990's. The first half of my career I mostly worked in SunOS Unix environments, developing Graphical User Interfaces for government agencies using "C" and "NeWS". You've probably never heard of "NeWs", so here is the Wiki link to NeWS.

I spent a summer and winter break working as an intern at Argonne National Lab. As an intern I started helping with work on a GUI for the TACWAR war simulator used by CENTCOM. I continued this work after graduating from the University of Illinois and starting full time at Argonne. Working on TACWAR graphics was an intense experience and a great learning experience. Read Chapter 9 - Wargames at War of the The Complete Wargames Handbook by James F Dunnigan for an in depth discussion of computer wargames.

The next major project that I worked on after TACWAR was the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program for the Department of Energy. I started as a contributing engineer and eventually was a lead engineer of the geographically distributed engineering team that implemented the automated data collection system for this project. At that time, the ARM program Southern Great Plains site was the largest land based meteorological data collection system in the world. This project was another great experience that helped me learn design and implementation of large complex systems, along with unix, C and perl programming. Glad to see that after all these years the program is still going strong!

In addition to the two major projects that I worked on at ANL, I was also involved in research and application development in the Hyperspectral Imaging and Transportation Research and Analysis fields. These projects provided me with exposure to additional programming languages, algorithms and computing techniques.

i love to make things and make things do things by moving things around. i am an illustrator, animator & motion graphics designer. i love to experiment and try new things. i did my graduate studies @ the Royal College of Art in London, but don't let that fool you - "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." (mark twain)
i am based out of NYC (LES). feel free to get in touch. we don't bite... much.
